HCWH Partner Organization, groundWork, will participate of a Health and Energy Policy Roundtable that will take place April 24th. The roundtable will bring together health professionals, researchers, and academics with energy policy experts to identify the health implications of current energy policy and systems in the Western Cape and South Africa, develop a position for a healthy energy policy and a collaborative strategy for mobilizing the health sector on energy and health impacts. more

South Africa: Health Workers Learn of Chemical Hazards
HCWH partner organization, groundWork, has endeavored to work with health practitioners to get them to understand chemical exposure in their patients as possibly arising from the work environment. Overall, 289 clinical health care and environmental health workers in Durban, South Africa, have been trained. more

South Africa: groundWork Leads Seminar on Sustainable Health Care Waste Management
HCWH partner organization, groundWork, in partnership with eThekwini Metro Municipality and the KwaZulu Natal Department of Health, began the first of many workshops for the public health sector. Approximately 110 health professionals from the various spheres of the public health sector in the KZN region, gathered to listen and engage with issues of health care waste risk management (HCRWM). more

South Africa: Minister of Health Calls for Strong Action on Climate Change
In the opening keynote speech of the First Climate and Health Summit, Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister of Health of South Africa, called for strong action on climate change. He was followed by Nnimmo Bassey of Environmental Rights Action in Nigeria and President of Friends of the Earth International who discussed the connection between the local and global health impacts of fossil fuels. view videos
