Since 1999, the World Health Organization (WHO) handbook Safe management of waste from health-care activities(commonly known as "the Blue Book") has been the definitive information source on how to deal with these wastes, particularly in low and middle income countries.
Now, the second edition of the handbook has been released, containing updated guidance on the most environmentally sustainable waste treatment technologies, how to plan the setting up of a waste management system and a host of other essential subjects.
This handbook is based on the experience of numerous international experts, including HCWH Science and Policy Coordinator, Ruth Stringer, and is a source of impartial health-care information and guidance on safe waste management practices.
